S-STEM has a deadline of February 22, 2022. The list of S-STEM-eligible disciplines, required documentation, and limits on number of submissions per institution have changed and it is highly recommended that all potential proposers read the solicitation thoroughly, watch the presentation, and participate in the office hour question and answer sessions.

The main goal of the S-STEM program is to enable low-income, talented domestic undergraduate and graduate students to pursue successful careers in promising STEM areas of strategic national need. Ultimately, the S-STEM program wants to increase the number of low-income students who graduate and contribute to the American innovation economy with their STEM knowledge. We encourage prospective S-STEM PIs to bookmark the program website link above, which includes the contact information for S-STEM program officers.

The U.S. National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2023 budget of $9.5 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
