Statement by Linda Massaro
Chief Information Officer
On Glitch-Free Y2K Transition
The National Science Foundation's preparations for Y2K allowed us to continue uninterrupted the nation's business of fundamental scientific research--which includes annual financial transactions worth $3.5 billion, and an annual workload of some 30,000 research proposals to about 2,000 institutions nationwide. A staff of 45 worked on-site throughout the New Year's weekend, and at least 35 more were on-call, to ensure a glitch-free transition. We have experienced no Y2K-related incidents with any of our computer systems. We will continue our precautionary vigilance as the year progresses.
