Biography


Scott Stanley Mechanical Engineering

Scott Stanley is Vice President of Technology for Techno Planet, an aerospace engineering firm he co-founded in 2008. Previously he held senior roles at Hughes Aircraft, Schaeffer Magnetics, Moog, and Alliance Spacesystems. Stanley is a recognized industry expert in the development and manufacture of spacecraft mechanisms for orbital and planetary applications, and drills and sample acquisition systems focused on Mars and the Moon. He has been a NASA Principal Investigator for planetary robotic drilling, coring, and sample handling development projects.


He also has extensive experience in developing mechanisms, actuators and electromechanical systems for aircraft, ships, and ground-based applications. His career has included stints with government and large, medium, and small commercial firms, with the last 25 years focusing on entrepreneurial efforts.


He is helping develop the next generation of mechanical engineers through sponsored joint development projects between Techno Planet and Loyola Marymount University.


Stanley is a member of the National Science Board’s class of 2020-2026.
