The Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST)

From northern California to Alaska, over 700 community members search their beach every month for what the tide brings in. Focusing on beached birds, the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST) has documented over 35,000 birds and more than 125 species. Aged 7 to 93, COASSTers are fervent believers in the power of their data to track climate impacts, set a baseline for oil spills and reveal the health of nearshore ocean ecosystems. Are you a beach walker concerned about what's happening to your favorite shoreline? Get involved!
