Dawn Tilbury begins appointment to head NSF Engineering Directorate
University of Michigan mechanical engineer to lead investments in fundamental engineering research and education

Tilbury comes to NSF from the University of Michigan (U-M), where she is a professor of
mechanical engineering, and has served as associate dean for research in the College of
Engineering. ENG provides about 32 percent of the federal funding for fundamental research in engineering at academic institutions, and distributes about 1,600 research awards each year.
