Core Geoscience Research

The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Geosciences offers funding opportunities across the atmospheric and geospace, Earth and ocean sciences.

These funding opportunities support projects that expand the frontiers of knowledge in science and technology. The opportunities encourage projects that advance research on Earth's atmosphere and the near-Earth space environment; solid Earth sciences and Earth surface processes; and all fields of ocean science.

U.S. sub-seafloor sampling

This program supports a variety of sub-seafloor sampling approaches and tools, including scientific ocean drilling, large-scale collaborations on ocean drilling legacy assets, and technology and instrument development. Investigators planning to propose projects that will be implemented by the NSF Scientific Ocean Drilling Coordination Office should coordinate with the office prior to submitting a proposal.
