ABSTRACT

This research project, PI John Heaton, University of Alaska Fairbanks, is to collect primary documents related to the history of Interior Alaskan Athabascans for analyses of how the Athabascan people responded to culture contact, including their integration into a market economy and their early movement toward political autonomy. Although there are ethnographies of these groups, this will be one of the first ethnohistoric examinations of the historical archival materials that exist on the Interior Alaskan Athabascans.
