NSF is withdrawing the Dear Colleague Letter (DCL) on Controlled but Unclassified Information (CUI). We realize that there needs to be more clarity when we communicate about NSF's CUI policies and how they conform with overall U.S. Government CUI policies as well as any impacts to the community. We are developing a set of Frequently Asked Questions on CUI that will be released in the future. At present, there are no additional requirements on the research community regarding CUI. We expect the research community to continue to maintain the high ethical standards that are necessary to protect the merit review process.
