A toolkit for transformable materials -- Science360 Extra

In episode 77, Jordan and Charlie explore metamaterials with reprogrammable shape and function. Metamaterials--materials whose function is determined by structure instead of composition--are designed to do a number of amazing things; the problem is these materials are only good for specific tasks. Researchers at Harvard University have developed a general framework for designing reconfigurable materials. These materials would contain within their structures multiple functions, and easily and autonomously switch between them.
