King Island Dancer
A dancer from the King Island Dance Group performs at the Alaskan Native Science and Engineering Program (ANSEP) 2006 Banquet.
ANSEP is headquartered at the University of Alaska, Anchorage (ANSEP also has programs at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, the University of Hawaii, Manoa, and the University of Washington, which form the National Science Foundation Pacific Alliance), where it began in 1995 with only one Alaskan Native student studying science and engineering at the university. Today, there are over 120 students at the University of Alaska, Anchorage, and over 70 at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks.
The objective of ANSEP is to effect a systemic change in the hiring patterns of Indigenous Americans in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) by increasing the number of individuals on a career path to leadership within STEM fields.
