Historically Black Colleges and Universities-Excellence in Research (HBCU EiR)
The Historically Black Colleges and Universities-Excellence in Research program is designed to increase support for researchers at HBCUs interested in pursuing research in domains that align with NSF's research program areas. Proposals may address any of the scientific areas supported by SBE. Interdisciplinary proposals are also welcome. EiR aims to establish stronger connections between researchers at HBCUs and NSF's research programs. Proposals submitted to EiR are routed for review to the most appropriate research program(s) as identified by the principal investigator.
Letters of intent are required so that the EiR Working Group can connect prospective PIs with the most relevant NSF research program(s) prior to proposal submission. The letter of intent (a project synopsis with no more than 500 words) deadline date is July 28, 2022. The full proposal deadline date is October 7, 2022.
Build and Broaden 3.0
Build and Broaden 3.0 (B2 3.0) supports 1) fundamental research at minority-serving institutions (MSIs) and 2) encourages research collaborations with scholars at MSIs. NSF has taken steps to expand participation by focusing on research communities that are not well-represented in the federal research system. Proposals are invited from single Principal Investigators based at MSIs and from multiple co-investigators from a group of MSIs. Principal Investigators who are not affiliated with MSIs may submit proposals, but must collaborate with PIs, co-PIs, or Senior Personnel from MSIs and describe how their project will foster research partnerships or capacity-building with at least one MSI as a primary goal of the proposed work. Proposals may address any of the scientific areas supported by SBE. For a full list of research areas supported by SBE please visit the SBE programs page.
