This figure illustrates the submission and review processes for FY 2013 INSPIRE Track 2 letters of intent and full proposals.

INSPIRE Track 2, Fiscal Year 2013

The processing of INSPIRE Track 2 funding requests, from submission to review to award, is illustrated from a proposer's viewpoint in this figure. The process begins with a letter of intent that is screened and then reviewed internally, resulting in a decision by NSF as to whether to invite a full Track 2 proposal. For specialized topical merit, full Track 2 proposals will generally be reviewed internally and possibly by ad hoc external review. Further external blue-ribbon panel review, by the same panel that considers Director's INSPIRE Award proposals, will evaluate the Track 2 proposals for high-level scientific impact, excitement, transformative potential, and interdisciplinarity. On the basis of the review, NSF will decide on Track 2 awards and declines.
