Performance on the math assessment improved for all racial/ethnic groups over the course of the kindergarten year.

Key Observations

  • Upon entering kindergarten, black and Hispanic students scored 9-10 points lower on the math assessment than Asian students and 6-7 points lower than white students.
  • While all racial/ethnic groups gained 12-13 points from fall 2010 to spring 2011, the gaps between groups did not narrow over the school year.
