The Office of Polar Programs (OPP) postdoctoral fellowships (PRF) program provides two years of salary for early career scientists, including social scientists, working, or interested in working, in the Arctic or Antarctic. The fellowship provides opportunities to 1) expand work across traditional disciplinary lines, 2) develop new partnerships connecting the polar regions and/or non-polar research communities, and 3) access polar research resources, sites and facilities. The fellowship program encourages proposals from investigators who have not previously worked in polar regions and/or projects using innovative techniques that have not previously been applied to polar science. Additionally, the OPP-PRF aims to support early career investigators with experiences that will establish them in leadership positions in the scientific community.
