Dear Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences Colleagues,

We hope your summer is going well and that you and yours remain safe. With this note, we would like to make you aware of several upcoming virtual outreach events, AGS program director openings, and the Alan T Waterman Award call for nominations.

Upcoming Virtual Office Hours/Webinars

  • We will be holding a Virtual NSF AGS Office Hour on Wednesday, August 18th, at 2 PM EDT. During this time, AGS program officers are available to respond to questions of general nature after a presentation on topics of interest to you. Pre-registration is required and allows for input on webinar content. Thus, at your earliest convenience please consider registering and forwarding this e-mail to colleagues who may be interested in this event:  https://nsf.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_mopt4c2eS-2dkgOGcfiaaw
  • The next quarterly NSF Geosciences Directorate Webinar will be held on August 12th, 2-4 PM EDT, on the topics of (i) the new GEO Innovation Hub and associated funding opportunities that provide resources to support moving your research results to society and the economy, and (ii) the Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) that has released a new solicitation (NSF 21-602). Register in advance for this webinar:  https://nsf.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN_K8W7YS6bT4yuUqMKMFiBLw
  • AGS is planning a separate Webinar on the new request process for Field Campaigns & Community Instrumentation and Facilities in September (Date TBD). Specifics for this virtual event will be forthcoming.

Program Director Openings

  • The Geospace Sciences (GS) Section is recruiting a rotator Program Director to lead a new initiative on data systems with the goal to enhance data exploitation within the geospace field. Full details of the position and how to apply are available in the GS Dear Colleague Letter. Please direct inquiries to the GS Acting Section Head, Dr. Lisa Winter (lwinter@nsf.gov).
  • A reminder that the Atmosphere Section (AS) is also recruiting a rotator Program Director in Atmospheric Chemistry. Full details of the position and how to apply are available in the AS Dear Colleague Letter. Please direct inquiries to Dr. Sylvia Edgerton (sedgerto@nsf.gov).

 2022 Alan T Waterman Award

  • Nominations for the 2022 Alan T Waterman Award are accepted through September 20th, 2022. The award recognizes outstanding young researchers in any field of science or engineering, and this is the first year that geosciences are specified as a scientific domain that nominators can select. Nominations must be submitted through the NSF Fastlane system. Access the NSF Alan T. Waterman Award Page for more information on eligibility and nomination requirements, past awardees, and tips for submitting a strong nomination.

We look forward to your presence at the August 18th Virtual Office Hour and appreciate your spreading the word.

Best Wishes,

The AGS Team
