Lying in Wait for WIMPs

With 350 kilograms of liquid xenon and the low background of the Sanford Underground Research Facility in the Black Hills, the Large Underground Xenon experiment, LUX, is the most sensitive search yet for weakly interacting massive particles, or WIMPs. Researchers at the Department of Energy's Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and their collaborators want to increase that sensitivity by orders of magnitude with the proposed LUX ZEPLIN.Full Story
