Shirley Ann Jackson, president, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. Jackson recently received the 2007 Vannevar Bush Award for her lifetime of scientific, educational and public policy achievements. She will address an audience at the National Science Foundation on global energy security and its tie-in to what she describes as a "quiet crisis" in U.S. science and technology.
