More Women Receive Ph.D.s, But Female Senior Faculty Are Still Rare

Although more women are earning Ph.D.'s in science and engineering fields (left-most bars), a relative few stay in academia to become full professors (right-most bars). This chart shows the percentage of women (compared to men) who earn Ph.D.'s and go on to assume faculty positions in those fields. Each horizontal stripe represents 10 percent.
