Pairs of vibrating qubits

MIT researchers found a way to store quantum information in the vibrational motion of atom pairs, similar to the swinging motion of two pendula, connected by a spring. The pairs of vibrating quantum bits, or qubits, pictured here are among the hundreds contained in the quantum system and can be coherently controlled by researchers for over 10 seconds.
