Images and other media in the National Science Foundation Multimedia Gallery are available for use in print and electronic material by NSF employees, members of the media, university staff, teachers and the general public. All media in the gallery are intended for personal, educational and nonprofit/non-commercial use only.
Videos credited to the National Science Foundation, an agency of the U.S. Government, may be distributed freely. However, some materials within the videos may be copyrighted. If you would like to use portions of NSF-produced programs in another product, please contact the Video Team in the Office of Legislative and Public Affairs at the National Science Foundation.

Next generation Arctic research vessel on track for voyage of discovery
Science NationNSF, in cooperation with the Marinette Marine Corporation (MMC) and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF), successfully launched the R/V Sikuliaq, a "next-generation" global class research vessel. MMC is the Wisconsin shipyard that built the ship, with funding provided by NSF through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. UAF's School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences will operate the ship as part of the U.S. Academic Research Fleet. The new vessel's name, Sikuliaq, pronounced "see-KOO-lee-ack," is an Inupiat word meaning "young sea ice."
