Palmer is the smallest of the three U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP)research stations, all of which are operated by the National Science Foundation. Palmer is located on Anvers Island, just west of the Antarctic Peninsula. The population there can range from 10 to 46. The facility consists of two major buildings and several smaller structures, a dock, a marine biology lab and an atmospheric research facility.
