Images and other media in the National Science Foundation Multimedia Gallery are available for use in print and electronic material by NSF employees, members of the media, university staff, teachers and the general public. All media in the gallery are intended for personal, educational and nonprofit/non-commercial use only.
Videos credited to the National Science Foundation, an agency of the U.S. Government, may be distributed freely. However, some materials within the videos may be copyrighted. If you would like to use portions of NSF-produced programs in another product, please contact the Video Team in the Office of Legislative and Public Affairs at the National Science Foundation.

Making a smartwatch smarter
NSF Science NowJust when you thought your smartwatch could do it all, there’s more. Researchers at UCLA with funding from the National Science Foundation have designed a double-sided, thin adhesive film that attaches to the underside of a smartwatch. It analyzes the chemical makeup of droplets of sweat, tracking things like your glucose and lactate -- highly specific indicators of your health. Giving you a real-time snapshot of how well your metabolism is working and what is happening inside your body. While right now, the film only works with the team’s custom smartwatch and app to record data, they see the film someday being applied to popular models of smartwatches.
