Failure to understand risks may lead to dangerous delay in seeking medical care
Understanding numbers that indicate probability risks can be a challenge in medical decision-making.

Red dots signify patient deaths among the total number of patients in a hypothetical experiment. The visual at top shows the death rate among patients treated with an experimental drug as 15 percent. The image at bottom gives a visual of the death rate of patients undergoing a traditional treatment as 10 percent. Research shows that visual aids improve understanding of numerical concepts for medical decision-making.
