Making room for science at Oklahoma's tribal colleges
High school students learned about horned toads at a summer camp hosted by Comanche Nation College. The camp was funded through a partnership between Comanche Nation College, NSF's Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research, Oklahoma IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. Students learned about the endangered animal, as well as Comanche history and culture.

High school students and Oklahoma State University zoologists search for horned toads during a summer camp, hosted by Comanche Nation College. The students learned about the endangered lizards as well as Comanche history and culture. The camp was funded through a partnership between Comanche Nation College, the Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR), Oklahoma IDeA Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE), and the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.

Students survey the Oklahoma landscape during Horned Toad Summer Camp, hosted by Comanche Nation College. The camp blended science on the endangered animal with lessons on Comanche history and culture. The tribal college has hosted similar camps on horses and buffalo, designed to boost Comanche students' interest in the biological sciences.
