Industry/University Cooperative Research Centers Program (I/UCRC)
Note:  I/UCRC proposals in areas relevant to the Forensic Sciences may be of interest to investigators in the chemical sciences.
Letter of Intent Due Date: June 26, 2015
Full Proposal Deadline Date: September 25, 2015
NSF 13-594

Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER)
Proposal deadline date for Chemistry: July 23, 2015
NSF 15-555

Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
Proposal deadline date: August 26, 2015
NSF 13-542

Chemistry Research Proposals (including unsolicited, Research at Primarily Undergraduate Institutions, RUI, and Grant Opportunities for Academic Liaison with Industry, GOALI):  Depending upon the program, the window will be in either September or October. Principal Investigators (PIs) may submit proposals to the following programs between September 1st and September 30th:

  • Chemical Catalysis - CAT
  • Chemical Structure, Dynamics and Mechanisms - CSDM A
  • Chemical Structure, Dynamics and Mechanisms - CSDM B
  • Chemical Theory, Models and Computational Methods - CTMC
  • Chemical Synthesis - SYN

Proposals may be submitted between October 1st and October 31st to:

  • Chemical Measurement and Imaging - CMI
  • Chemistry of Life Processes - CLP
  • Environmental Chemical Sciences - ECS
  • Macromolecular, Supramolecular and Nanochemistry - MSN

Note that if the last day of a submission window falls on a weekend or official federal government holiday, the deadline is always the following business day, at 5 pm local time.

NOTE:  When choosing "program announcement/solicitation/description" in preparing the cover page of your proposal in NSF FastLane, select the correct program announcement/solicitation/description number.  For example, when submitting an unsolicited proposal to the Chemical Synthesis program, select "PD 09-6878". This code can be found in the program description web-page of the respective program. To ensure proper handling of your proposal, do not select "NSF grant proposal guide-GPG".  For solicited proposals, select the proper solicitation number (for example, for CAREER proposals use NSF 15-555, for RUI proposals use NSF 14-579, and for GOALI proposals use NSF 12-513).

CHE discourages the submission of more than one proposal from the same Principal Investigator during the proposal-submission window. Note that proposals that are a duplicate of, or substantially similar to, a proposal already under consideration by NSF from the same submitter are subject to return without review. This also applies to proposals that were previously reviewed and declined and have not been substantially revised as well as to duplicates of other proposals that were already awarded.

MPS/CHE: Advice to PIs on Data Management

NSF requires a supplementary document of no more than  two pages describing a Data Management Plan for the proposed research.  Fastlane will not permit submission of a proposal that is missing the Data Management Plan.  The Data Management Plan will be reviewed as part of the intellectual merit or broader impacts of the proposal, or both, as appropriate.   The goal is to provide clear, effective, and transparent implementation of the long-standing NSF Policy on Dissemination and Sharing of Research Results.

Each Division within MPS has developed a set of information items to provide guidance to the communities served by that Division in preparing a Data Management Plan that will meet the goals of the NSF plan.  For more information on the policy and process click here.
