Among those employed by 4-year colleges and universities, a higher percentage of Asian and a lower percentage of black than of white S&E doctorate holders were in the nation's top research universities.

  • One-third of black S&E doctorate holders employed in 4-year colleges and universities, compared with 42% of Hispanic and 44% of white S&E doctorate holders were employed in doctorate granting universities with very high research activity.
  • More than half (54%) of Asian S&E doctorate holders employed in 4-year colleges and universities were employed in doctorate-granting universities with very high research activity.
  • Black S&E doctorate holders employed in 4-year colleges and universities were more likely than other racial/ethnic groups to be employed in master's granting colleges and universities.
