Errata

The following errors in the printed Digest have been corrected on the Digest website. The pdf file available from the Digest website reflects the original printed document. Typographic errors that do not alter the meaning of the presented data have also been corrected, although they are not listed here.

Page 4 (figure 1)

• Year labels on the horizontal axis are incorrect. From left to right, the correct first 5 labels are 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, and 1988. The rest of the labels are correct as printed.

Page 5 (figure 2)

• The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) was incorrectly identified as the Office of Economic Co-operation and Development.
• The URL for OECD's Science, Technology and Industry Outlook 2006 now refers to that publication's homepage rather than the specific excel file used to produce figure 2.

Page 8 (figure 5)

• The General Science, Space, Environment, and Energy lines were incorrectly labeled. The correct assignment, from top-to bottom, in year 2008 is Defense, Nondefense, Health, Space, General Science, Environment, Transportation, Energy.
• The FY 2008 Federal R&D budget website has moved to http://ostp.gov/cs/2008_budget as of March 12, 2008.

Page 19 (figure 14)

• The correct value for vacancies in Biology or Life Sciences is 56.1 percent not 65.1 percent.

Page 25 (figure 18)

• The figure title incorrectly identifies the series as covering years 1989-2006. The series only covers years 1998-2006, as indicated by the year labels on the horizontal axis.
