Investigative Legal and Outreach is responsible for providing legal advice regarding administrative, civil, and criminal investigations, and related legal issues. We work with our lead investigators to ensure that all elements, criteria, or factors important to allegations or issues are identified, addressed, and supported with evidence, and that appropriate action is taken based on the evidence. We also serve as lead investigators in appropriate cases.

We also conduct special projects, proactive reviews, and outreach. As part of our mission to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse, we conduct on-site outreach programs at conferences and for grantees. We tailor our programs to specific needs, and can present information regarding audits, research misconduct, financial fraud, and investigations, as well as general information about what the OIG does and efforts that can be taken to prevent misconduct and other problems.
