Elise Lipkowitz

Elise Lipkowitz is a 2013-2014 AAAS Science & Technology Policy Fellow in the National Science Board Office. She received her Ph.D. in History from Northwestern University in 2009. She is by training an historian of science interested in the interrelationship of science and government and the history of nationalism and internationalism in science. She is currently working on a book that recounts the story of the European scientific community amid the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars.
Prior to becoming an AAAS Fellow, Elise was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the University of Michigan’s Society of Fellows and an Assistant Professor in the Department of History. At the University of Michigan, she taught History of Science courses and authored several journal articles. As a graduate student, she served on the Council of the American Historical Association and chaired its Graduate and Early Career Committee. Prior to graduate school, she worked as a public relations professional in the Silicon Valley where she did media outreach and strategic communications work on behalf of companies in the software, hardware, and optical networking sectors.
