The National Science Board (NSB) today announced the launch of Science and Engineering Indicators (SEI) for Android. The new app joins the existing and recently updated SEI App for iPad. Both free apps provide users with access to the full content of the 2014 Science and Engineering Indicators report, the premier source of information and analysis of the nation's position in science and engineering (S&E) education and research.

Produced by the NSB and the National Science Foundation's National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES), SEI is used by Congress, the administration, the science and engineering (S&E) research and education communities, journalists and others who seek unbiased, high-quality, quantitative data related to science and technology.

"We're pleased to offer users greater access to this data-rich federal resource," said Dan Arvizu, chairman of the NSB. "The mobile apps are part of ongoing efforts by NSB and NCSES to transition SEI into the digital age, taking greater advantage of advances in available technology to enhance its value for existing and new users."

SEI includes information on science, mathematics and engineering education at all levels; the S&E workforce, domestic and international R&D performance; U.S. competitiveness in high technology and public attitudes towards and understanding of the sciences. The publication is subject to extensive review by outside experts, other federal agencies, NSB members and NCSES reviewers.

Visit Google Play to download the free SEI app for Android and the App Store to download the free SEI app for iPad.

About the National Science Board

The NSB is the policymaking body for the National Science Foundation. NSB also advises the President and Congress on science and engineering policy issues. The NSB's 24 members are drawn primarily from universities and industry and represent a variety of S&E disciplines. Selected for their eminence in research, education or public service and records of distinguished service, NSB members serve six-year terms. NSF's director is an ex officio member of the NSB.

The U.S. National Science Foundation propels the nation forward by advancing fundamental research in all fields of science and engineering. NSF supports research and people by providing facilities, instruments and funding to support their ingenuity and sustain the U.S. as a global leader in research and innovation. With a fiscal year 2023 budget of $9.5 billion, NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and institutions. Each year, NSF receives more than 40,000 competitive proposals and makes about 11,000 new awards. Those awards include support for cooperative research with industry, Arctic and Antarctic research and operations, and U.S. participation in international scientific efforts.
