Sampling stations along the coast of Peru

Map: Sampling stations along the coast of Peru

Caption: Three stations were sampled monthly from November 1998 to March 2000. Samples were tested for V. cholerae. The coast of Peru, shown on this map – has added new insights to the cholera story. Here, cholera surfaced in 1991 after a century of absence in Latin America. Cholera has recurred in Peru since then, following a seasonal pattern, with the greatest number of cases in the summer (June-March) in Lima and other major cities along the coast.
