Girls' Energy Conservation Corps

What is climate change? How are everyday actions connected to climate change? In the Girls' Energy Conservation Corps (GECCo), funded by the National Science Foundation, junior Girl Scouts ages 8-13 explore these questions through interactive, online and hands-on games, science assignments, skits and field trips. GECCo participants identify ways in which they use energy, then brainstorm and practice how they can save it, understanding the power of collective action�how little things add up�to help solve a pressing problem. The scouts become agents of change in energy conservation, as their activities develop self-efficacy and the motivation to communicate energy conservation messages through new media outreach to peers, families and their communities.
