Neal F. Lane, 2013 winner of the National Science Board's Vannevar Bush Award, discusses his career, including his tenure at NSF director and White House science adviser and his views on the state of the nation's scientific funding enterprise. Lane is currently Malcolm Gillis University Professor and senior fellow in science and technology policy at Rice's Baker Institute of Public Policy
