In June 2013, the General Services Administration (GSA) announced a new lease agreement for the National Science Foundation's (NSF) national headquarters to be located in Alexandria, Va. In January 2014, construction began on the 660,848 square feet of space. Throughout this process, NSF management has been negotiating with NSF's union AFGE Local 3403 on the design of the building space, which ultimately came before the Federal Service Impasses Panel (FSIP) for resolution. As a result, NSF has directed GSA to conduct a redesign of the new NSF headquarters to implement the FSIP decision. NSF and GSA are working together to mitigate costs and schedule slippage.
