New Iowa State Supercomputer, Cystorm, Unleashes 28.16 Trillion Calculations Per Second

Cystorm, Iowa State University's (ISU) second supercomputer, is capable of a peak performance of 28.16 trillion calculations per second. It will help ISU researchers advance their work in materials science, power systems and systems biology. It is also earning Iowa State recognition as a Sun Microsystems Center of Excellence in Engineering Informatics and Systems Biology. Full Story

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is an independent federal agency that supports fundamental research and education across all fields of science and engineering. In fiscal year (FY) 2012, its budget was $7.0 billion. NSF funds reach all 50 states through grants to nearly 2,000 colleges, universities and other institutions.
