NSF is uniquely positioned to bring together physicists, engineers, neuroscientists, computer scientists, biologists and experts from many scientific disciplines to develop the tools needed to advance our understanding of the brain. As part of The BRAIN Initiative, NSF funds efforts to help catch circuits in action. This image shows the neuronal network of a mouse brain, taken by an NSF-funded awardee supported by one of 36 brain research projects announced in 2014.
