John Gierke, crouching at the center, is measuring the water level during a pumping test in a rope-pump well in San Nicholas, Nicaragua. The well is being pumped by Michigan Tech graduate student Rob Hegemann, on the far right, and Moises Guillen, who is on staff with the Nicaraguan/Wisconsin Partners of the Americas. Michigan Tech graduate student Jill Bruning is recording the data.
