Linguistics Program - Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Awards
This solicitation should be used by doctoral students and their advisors who are interested in submitting proposals for Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement (DDRI) awards. Important Information for Proposers
A revised version of the NSF Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG) (NSF 15-1), is
effective for proposals submitted, or due, on or after December 26, 2014. The PAPPG is consistent
with, and, implements the new Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit
Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance) (2 CFR § 200). NSF anticipates release of
the PAPPG in the Fall of 2014. Please be advised that, depending on the specified due date,
the guidelines contained in NSF 15-1 may apply to proposals submitted in response to this

The Linguistics Program supports basic science in the domain of human language, encompassing investigations of the grammatical properties of individual human languages, and of natural language in general. Research areas include syntax, linguistic semantics and pragmatics, morphology, phonetics, and phonology.
The program encourages projects that are interdisciplinary in methodological or theoretical perspective, and that address questions that cross disciplinary boundaries, such as (but not limited to):
The Linguistics Program does not make awards to support clinical research projects, nor does it support work to develop or assess pedagogical methods or tools for language instruction.
