EEC Program Evaluations

The National Science Foundation (NSF) represents a significant source of support for research in engineering education, and recently renewed its commitment to this area following the release of a report by the National Science Board outlining steps that might be taken to improve engineering education. This section provides links to evaluation reports for the Division's engineering education programs.

We Measure What We Do

To assure the efficient investment of public funds in the coming years, the NSF Engineering Education and Centers Division (EEC) of the Directorate for Engineering asked the IDA Science and Technology Policy Institute (STPI) to examine a sample of NSF grants programs in engineering education, while also developing a master plan for longer term support for research in engineering education. STPI launched a six-month study in April 2008 to provide the NSF’s Engineering Education program with a systematic review of the outcomes and impacts of active grants in three engineering education program areas:

In addition, engineering education programs in the Division that seek to advance discovery, innovation and education beyond the frontiers of current knowledge, and to empower future generations in engineering by cultivating a world-class, broadly inclusive engineering workforce through investment in America's talent pool of K-12 educators and serve the full K-16 constituency—students, teachers, and undergraduates have also recently been evaluated. These programs include:
