OMB Memorandum M-12-12 Conference Report Overview

NSF Point of Contact: Sallie Morse, Budget Division, Office of Budget, Finance and Award Management (BFA)

OMB Memorandum M-12-12, "Promoting Efficient Spending to Support Agency Operations," was issued on May 11, 2012. OMB M-12-12 requires federal agencies to report, by January 31st of each year, information on all agency-sponsored conferences from the previous year where the net expenses for each single conference were in excess of $100,000. This report is also required to include the agency head’s waiver for any single conference with net conference expenses that exceeded $500,000. This waiver provides an explanation of the exceptional circumstances that necessitated exceeding the $500,000 threshold.

The National Science Foundation (NSF) OMB M-12-12 conference report for FY 2012 is provided on this website and includes the following information:

  • General report of NSF conference activities
  • Detailed report on Conferences with Expenses in Excess of $100,000
  • Summary of Net Conference Expenses for FY 2012
